Grady Hospital Receives $20 Million to Improve Trauma, Brain Injury Care

The Atlanta-based Grady Health System has announced a $20 million grant from the Marcus Foundation, also in Atlanta, to improve emergency care to victims of trauma and acute neurological injury throughout Georgia.

The funding will enable the financially strapped Grady Memorial Hospital to expand available space for trauma and brain injury victims and improve time-dependent therapies for acute neurological emergencies. The hospital’s trauma center will include an additional two dedicated trauma bays and a new, twenty-bed neuro-intensive-care unit. The grant will cover the cost of construction, equipment, and recruitment of five physicians to support the facilities, which will be named the Marcus Stroke & Neuroscience Center at Grady and the Marcus Trauma Center at Grady.

“These improvements will enable Grady to advance its already strong trauma care services and provide cutting-edge acute emergency care for traumatic brain injury and stroke patients,” said Grady president and CEO Michael Young. “In addition to improving care, the neuro-ICU program’s solid reimbursement rates should contribute greatly to Grady’s ongoing fiscal sustainability.”
