Hello World!

We set-up this site to help small businesses and their owners learn how to start, run and be successful business owners. In our more than 50 years of representing businesses we recognized a consistent pattern of things that small business failed to do that were detrimental to their success. We call them the “22 Major Mistakes that Small Businesses Make.” Alarmingly, 99% of all small businesses are making at least one of these major mistakes, any one of which can ruin your business. In fact, the SBA said that in 2003, there were more small business closures (584,500) than there were start-ups (550,100). Our job is to help you avoid or eliminate these major mistakes, reduce your exposure to lawsuits, so that you’ll become more successful and profitable; and not have to close your business.

“The time to see an attorney is when you’re legally healthy — certainly before the advent of litigation, and prior to the time legal trouble occurs.” We call this “Preventive Law,” does your lawyer or law firm practice preventive law? If not, he’s just waiting for trouble to happen, then he’ll react. Why not have someone who helps you prevent  trouble from happening in the first place (proactive). It’s similar to preventive medicine, which tries to prevent illnesses before they occur rather than waiting for you to get sick. It’s better, cheaper and keeps you healthier.

On a regular basis, we will discuss at least one of these major mistakes, why it’s  so important, and how to avoid them. We will also discuss other legal aspects of your business, such as which entity is best and why?; tips to avoid a lawsuit; asset protection myths; prenuptial quiz and why you should take it; risk management, what it means, and how to reduce it; contracts and leases; why accounting is so important; estate planning – it’s much more than a will; preventive law; holistic law; and others.

We’ll also discuss why it’s vitally important to properly tie your business life into your family and personal life (your whole life), and how that benefits your business, your family, and you. We call this our “Holistic” approach to practicing law. Does your lawyer or law firm practice “Holistic Law” when representing your business? If not, why not?, because it’s the only way to truly be successful, protect your business, your family and you, and pass that success and protection to your children and grandchildren.

If you have any ideas or topics you’d like for us to discuss, or questions you’d like answered, please let us know. We’re here to help you avoid making the major mistakes; prevent litigation; tie your business, family and personal life properly together (your whole life); and make your business more successful and profitable. We appreciate all of the feedback you give to make us better — so help us help you.
